No template websites Perth: why I start from a blank file
Every website I build starts with a blank file. No template and no pre-built theme. I do not wedge your business into a drag-and-drop grid someone else designed.
There is nothing wrong with templates if you are setting up a hobby blog or a side project. But if you are a Perth business trying to win customers, starting from the same layout as a thousand other sites is a strange move. That is why I offer no template websites for WA businesses that want to look like themselves, not a stock photo of themselves.
A template is a costume. Works for a school disco. Less so when a customer is deciding whether to trust you with their money.
why templates all start to look the same
Templates are popular because they are fast for the builder. Pick a layout, swap the logo, drop in some text, and you have something that looks professional at a glance. The problem is every other business in your suburb has done the same thing.
Scroll through a few trade sites in Joondalup or Wanneroo and you will spot the patterns. Same hero image. Same three-column feature section. Same headline that says "Welcome to [business name]." The site works, but it does not remember anything about the business behind it.
I have seen that hero image more times than I have been stuck behind a tractor on Wanneroo Road.
When a customer has five tabs open and four of them look identical, they go with the one that made them feel something. Usually that is the site with real copy and real photos. And a clear reason to call. That is why no template websites tend to win the comparison.
what starting from a blank file actually means
It does not mean I ignore best practice. It means I decide where every element goes based on what your customer needs to know first.
A blank file forces me to ask: what is the one thing a visitor should do on this page? This is the difference no template websites offer. Every decision is made for your customer, not for a template demo. For a plumber in Hillarys, it is probably call now. For a consultant in Clarkson, it is book a discovery call. For a landscaper in Mindarie, it is see a gallery of finished jobs and then call. The layout follows the goal, not the other way around.
I also write the copy from your intake answers, so the words match your voice. Your customers are not reading generic filler about "solutions" and "passion." They are reading why you started the business and what you actually do. They also see how quickly you can get to their place.
the hidden cost of template bloat
Most templates come with features you will never use. Fancy sliders, blog modules, booking widgets, team pages. That extra code slows the site down and makes it harder to maintain. A template site that looks simple can still carry a lot of baggage under the hood.
My sites are intentionally small. One page for the Launch plan, up to five for Growth. Every section has a job. There is no code sitting there just because the theme came with it.
Because the build is lean, it loads in under a second on a phone. Google notices. Your customers notice. The person trying to find a local trade at 6pm on the couch definitely notices.
no lock-in, no surprises
Templates can also trap you. Some builders make it painful to leave. They might own your content. Or they hit you with price hikes once you are hooked.
I keep it simple. You own your domain. If you ever want to leave, I give you a copy of the site. The monthly plan covers hosting, SSL, DNS, security, and updates. Launch gets one update per month. Presence gets three plus a monthly SEO post. Growth gets unlimited same-day updates.
That is the deal. No hidden fees, no drama.
